Being
a former Clevelander.. I feel like I have been scorned again. I was born in
1969 and have suffered through..the following horrors:
10
cent beer night (if it was up to me I would have served Guinness (but then
again it wouldn’t have been “genius”..and I was only 3 years old.);“Red Right
88”; “The Drive”; “The Fumble”; “The Shot”; “Art Modell taking the Browns”;
“Tim Couch”; “Manny being Manny”; Jim Thome leaving, Butch Davis and now?
Lebron Le-Leaving? Or should I say…Le-turning his back on a city and Le-$crewing
it? We should have known it was coming. So, should we be Le-$urprised? Not
really. Do you remember when he, Bosh and Wade restructured their contracts the
same time to become free agents? He gave up on the team about 3 years ago. I
have to say that he is an egotistical child. Yes, his physical talents warrant
to be compensated especially if he knows nothing else but basketball, meaning
that that is how he makes a living and supports his family.
Should
we really consider him a traitor? No, not really...since his allegiance was
never with Cleveland. It was with NY Yankees and OTHER TEAMS! Did you ever see
him wear a local team's jersey or other apparel? NOPE!
So,
I consider him a man child just passing through Cleveland for grass that is
greener (or in this case…”orange”) …all year around...and he said he was
loyal...he was only loyal to green..not wine and gold....green to St.Vincent/St.
Mary's green uniform and to the greedy green of money.
That's
my 2 cents..and frankly that is all Cleveland and it's fans feel like.
So, in
closing this Le-LeLo$ing chapter of Cleveland sports history, I have to say,
that the black cloud will pass and the sun will shine again through the smog..and
us Cleveland sports fans may think it is time to bring back 10 cent (Guinness)
beer nights…it will help us forget. And THAT would be genius!!!!
